Hope you got to see the eclipse last night. Wow. What a lovely reminder of the silent constancy of things.

I was awake with you, sister. I tried to cojole the boys out of bed, to no avail. It was just me and Jim standing there naked staring at that gorgeous orange globe through our bedroom window as the shadow moved across its face. Lovely.
I happened to wake up feeling rather burpy at 4am, and while drinking a glass of water, looked out my kitchen window and thought there was a grayish balloon tied above my neighbor’s house. it had an orangish shimmer - right! tonight! eclipse! 4am! that’s it!
