Home sweeeet home, baby
Vodka in hand, holiday chill music playing (yes they make that… check out reindeeroom), pug chewing, baby screaming… it’s great to be back at the ranch.
Some of you have been writing to me, wondering why I haven’t been posting. Am I okay? Am I alive? Am I in Mexico?
Sorry. I took a little break, jet lag and sleep deprivation and culture shock and all. Now I have no excuse, however, as things are going rather swimmingly and we’re basically just living it up in Ballard, forgetting that we actually work for a living. Software? Physics? Wha???
Lina is doing wonderfully well, though we’re still struggling with the sleep thing. I get the distinct feeling, however, that all families struggle with the sleep thing, so I’m okay with it. We’ll figure it out. Meantime, I get to dress her in supercute clothes and she can’t say no. I get to mix fruit hats with animal slippers. It’s heaven. Yesterday we relived the eighties and Lina wore legwarmers and parachute pants. It was awesome.
I routinely sing her songs about how omnipresent her boogers are. She seems to like this. Again, I’m aware that I’ll only be able to get away with this sort of thing for a limited time, so I’m making the most of it. I’ll leave the diaper changing songs to your imagination, but know this: they’re damn good.
She still isn’t big on eating anything other than her formula, although she’s always keenly interested in whatever we’re eating. This is problematic in that everything I eat is either covered in sambal or chocolate, neither of which is very good for a nine-month-old (so I hear). And my “juice”… well, you already know that’s not appropriate for children. (At the moment it’s Stoli Vanil with a float of Frangelico, BTW. Lovely.)
More about Lina: She loves the swings at the park. She loves sitting up on my shoulder as I walk around the house. She loves looking at the top of Shane’s head. She loves standing on her own two feet. (That’s my girl!)
And when I rock her to sleep, I want to stop time.
It’s great to be home.

HI Stephanie,
it’s great to see your posting today. I have not written before, but look up the website at least twice a week to see if there are new pictures/postings. David and the children also look at the pictures sometimes.
I am so glad you three are enjoying your time at home together. Work is just work. Well, it has meaning too, but you’ve already done it for many years and will do it for many years to come. Now is the time to savor the days.
Yes, I sure remember the sleeping thing. Theories/philosophies abound on how to handle it. It is easy to fret over it. However you decide to handle it will be fine. Ella still came to our bed in the middle of the night until about a month ago. Now, suddenly she comes only about twice a week and we miss her even though it is nice to have more space.
I’ve been pretty busy with a project at the children’s school which will be done in a few days. Next week I will be on vacation, yeah! We plan to visit Clarita’s grandchildren and her daughter in Portland for a few days.
Well, it is late. I need to go to bed. Take care and have fun. Love, Joyce
